The Arts

The promotion of the arts through the Canadian Council of the Arts has brought great benefits to both the Canadian artists and the Canadian and international communities. WOMEN’S ALLIANCE PARTY will support the arts in all its forms, and promote Canadian culture through the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and the legal minimums on Canadian content in the media (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

The recommendations by the Davey Commission (1970) and the Kent Commission (1981) to review the media corporate mergers and takeovers in Canada that saw a reduction of the independent ownership of daily newspapers drop from 17.3% (1990) to 1% (2005) will be re-examined and the studies updated with the intent to protect the rights of Canadians for quality information and diversity of views.

Policies and measures that govern advertisement, renewal of broadcasting licenses, restrictions to media convergences, and transparency on funding will be reviewed in order to increase freedom of the press, for the benefit of the Canadian people.
